Student DTD2003
PhD candidate
Department of Finance
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
How did you choose your apply school list?
Shotgun approach... I applied to a broad range of different tiered schools all of which had decent finance departments.
Were you surprised by any of the school you got into and the ones you didn't?
I certainly didn't expect to be accepted into UIUC.
Why did you choose "admitted program"? Could you please share with us all factors which leaded you to the final decision?
The quality of the faculty is amazing with practically all aspects of finance researched regularly. In addition, they are setting up a public policy institute which I'm strongly interested in working with.
What advice do you have for surviving the graduate admission progress?
BE ORGANIZED! Most applicants apply to many schools and coordinating the logistics of all the various material is cumbersome at best. ApplyCorner certainly help a ton in that regard!
If you were to do it over again, what would you do differently?
I'd probably try to re-take the GRE to get a little higher score.
Please share anything else which you haven't mentioned in above answers and you think future applicants of your major should know about it.
PhD Finance programs are very selective so don't be discouraged by all the rejection letters you will probably receive. :)
